"Membership Rule Change in MCP Top Committee Selection Process"

BY ISHMAEL CHIMWAZA

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has adopted a resolution that anyone aspiring for a position in the party's top committee should have been a member of the party for at least two years.

Some sources, according to Nation Online, say that the party's top committee reached this agreement during its meeting held today in the city of Lilongwe.

The country's leader, Lazarus Chakwera, who is also the party's president, was present during these discussions.

Those without names, who were present at the meeting but requested not to be mentioned, said that one of the members brought up this issue in the group and some supported it, then the committee approved it.

They said that in the next two years, a person should have been in any position that is stipulated in the party's constitution.

This shows that new members joining the party have no say in the current top committee elections happening this year.
