Dr. Chakwera highlighted the added benefits of the new systems, emphasizing that they will enhance data security by storing information online, a significant improvement from the conventional manual system that often led to the misplacement of vital documents. Stressing the importance of safeguarding public information, the President directed the Minister of Information and Digitalisation and the Secretary to the President and Cabinet to prioritize the protection and management of data within public information systems.
Minister of Lands, Deus Gumba, explained that LIMS, which was initiated in June 2022, will simplify land acquisition processes and ensure accessibility for all citizens. He mentioned the availability of help desks and toll-free numbers to assist individuals with navigating transactions independently.
Similarly, Minister of Justice, Titus Mvalo, lauded the introduction of MBRS for its role in enhancing public service delivery and supporting public sector reforms. The system's features include expedited processing, round-the-clock accessibility, and an emphasis on transparency and data integrity. Mvalo added that the new system eliminates the risks associated with the previous manual business registration process, which left clients vulnerable to corrupt practices.
Hugh Riddell, the Country Manager for the World Bank in Malawi, expressed the World Bank's commitment to assisting Malawi in modernizing its government information systems. Riddell highlighted the organization's support for the development of LIMS and MBRS, underscoring its dedication to helping Malawi enhance data management practices.
